Officially founded on the 14th of November 2003 as a member of IEEE Region 10, IEEE Sri Lanka Section has progressed rapidly with the collaboration of the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology, which is none other than the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In accordance with the IEEE mission to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity, in addition to the advancement of technical professionalism; IEEE Sri Lanka Section organizes many diverse events, for both members and non-members, within each calendar year.


University academic staff members, industry professionals and university students from all over the island constitute the IEEE Sri Lanka Section community. The growing volunteer stronghold is a pillar of success of which could not be done without. Their passion and enthusiasm drive the IEEE Sri Lanka Section towards greater heights. IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student/Young Professional/Women in Engineering Congress, IEEEXtreme Programming Competition, CodeExpertz (an online school programming competition), island-wide competitions to promote creativity in IEEE Members, technical workshops, lecture series and community service projects are some major events organized by IEEE Sri Lanka Section.


The composition of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section can be classified into four categories; namely the 6 student branches with over 300 active volunteers, IEEE Young Professional, Women in Engineering Affinity group and other societies. The IEEE Sri Lanka section strives continuously, to further its aim to be the platform of the global technical community for the aspiring tech professionals of tomorrow.
